- Cloud_DancerExplorer III like the sounds, and I like the part about the cold beer. My wife's adult beverage of choice is a Margarita on the rocks made with Cuervo Gold and Triple-Sec. "Around the fire", NOT so much.
I forgot,.....NO cold weather please. - Roy_LynneExplorerWhile we were camping at Joshua Tree we were serenaded nearly every night. What a wonder sound it is.
- SwanInWAExplorerI love that sound. I fall asleep listening to it practically every night in my sticks and bricks house -- it's become sort of eerily comforting. They traipse though the property on occasion, luckily our dog alerts us but is smart enough to keep his distance. They did eat our cat several years ago and because of that we've not gotten another. Oddly, I don't ever remember hearing them while camping, but if I did, I wouldn't be alarmed. Enjoy the moment.
- DakzukiExplorerGrab another beer and enjoy the sounds of nature.
- frankdampExplorerThe coyotes Ron mentioned are primarily around our small airport. We used to see them in our neighborhood, about 2 miles away from there. We've seen them (usually one solo) in daytime but haven't seen or heard any close by for several months.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIThey will avoid the fire. You will not, Thus you are protected. When the fire is no longer an issue, go inside.

It may not be Coyotes!! It might be a high pitched whine from another camper complaining about the campfire!
I like the beep beep answer best.
I doubt that. We were in a Campground, not a RV resort. And there wasn't another camper within 75 yards of us on our side of the trail, and they were running a generator until dark. So they didn't even hear the Coyotes. But we could hear their Honda running.
Which campground? We are hitting Julian Price and Linville Falls next weekend (Labor Day weekend). - hawkeye-08Explorer IIIPee around the perimeter of your campsite to keep them out. Many campgrounds frown on men peeing around in public, so you do that in the dark. My brother lost several cats until he started marking his territory, no more problems after that. You should teach your grandkids to do it also so they know how when they are on their own.
- tatestExplorer III sit there and listen to the coyotes howl. No threat to me, sitting by a fire.
- murphysranchExplorerI'm still chuckling about the ACME box and beep beep.
Now I'm gonna have that theme song in my head all day.....
