I've bought several rigs sight unseen and had them transported by Uship guys. Nary a bad experience, in fact, more than happy. I transferred the cash into the seller's bank account - this after a number of conversations to make sure they were legit, as well as doing lots of Googling of their name, etc. But it is a crapshot. I sent one guy a deposit using VISA and his company business. It all worked out fine. Not everyone's a crook, but you should do your research.
I've also sold rigs that way, and I always require a bank wire transfer before releasing the title, or better yet, cash in hand. DO NOT trust cashier's checks any more, they're too easy to forge these days. Your bank will cash them and all looks good until the supposed issuing bank refuses to honor it, then you have to return the money.
