The bottom line is not everyone in this world is your friend. Not everyone has your best interest at heart.
Only way to know for sure is to have a transfer that has ZERO time delay for real funds to transfer. If there is a delay, then there is a way to be stolen from. Is every transaction out there a scam, of course not. To turn a blind eye to the possibility of it happening is just as naive though.
If the OP does do a transfer via the bank officer I would make sure to ask when do the true funds show up in the account. If the banker says immediate, then ask them "can I then have it in cash as soon as it shows up, and close out that account." If the answer is "no, you need to wait", then run Forest run.
