Someone just stole my battery

Happened twice to me... Sears Diehards... then I got smart,
pulled the batteries...left the box open (lid off) ... and
put the battery on a trickle charge in my locked garage.

Would be a good marketing ploy for a business in the business
of selling battery protection to post "stolen battery" stories
on the web to generate business.... nah, that wouldn't happen ,
would it ????

oh,....here is another bit o' bad luck I've had... took my
battery to a local chain store "free charging".... the battery
they tried to give me back was not mine... they had given mine
away....live and learn.

Harold ...similar story... T-tops off my 300zx (when new) , broke
a window, left no prints, snapped both handles with a screwdriver,
probably 30 seconds total . To buy back new about $1200 per... so,
buy back from a warehouse full of stolen T-tops...$600 per. Probably
bought my own originals back. Same deal here in Az. with truck tailgates.

In the early seventies, I was In the Navy Stationed at the Naval Reserve training Center Philadelpia,PA, as an Instructor. I was the proud owner of a 1968 Pontiac GTO. Several of us instructors decided to go bowling. After we were through bowling, I came out and could not find My car(I still do that a lot lately.) :B I looked every where for it and finally called the Police. He drove me around the area but we did not see it. I returned to the Base and had a call from the Police Officer. He had located the Car in east philly. I went to get it and the thieves had stripped it of everything but the engine. He told me I would need wheels and tires to tow it. A buddy had four tires and wheels and loaned them to me. He dorve me to where the car was and towed me back to the Base. The next morn I started calling around for a new transmission. I found one and went to pick it up. The junk guy said they had just got in that morning. I looked at the transmission and derned if it didn't look familiar. I couldnt prove it but I still believe I bought my own Transmission. When I put it in the car, it slid right in just like it was home. Bolts and all.

Anything that uses a pad lock will be easy picking for thieves including your B&D battery case metal strap.. They come equipped with bolt cutters and dremal type cutting tools.

Metal boxes with lever type key locks is a good deterrent against thieves. You also have to keep in mind that once you have been hit in your neighborhood then it may happen again and again...

The best you can do is slow them down with anything and hopefully they go after your neighbors easy picking items...

My trailer also has motion detector lights but I guess that probably only gives them good lights to work with... Having alarms going off in the middle of the night at campgrounds will have other problems for you to deal with... A motion detector that turns on an old fashion fence shocker setup might go along way. Just be sure your pocket remote is always working.

The tongue of my TT is bare because I switched to AGM batteries and moved them inside under my bed/dinette. Out of sight.

I'm sorry that happened to you!!! Why people think they have a right to steal what other people have worked for, I'll never know. A # of years back my neighbors took their new Class B on a trip around the US. They went to dinner (took about 1 1/2 hrs) in New Orleans......when they got back, the whole inside was slashed, trashed, and destroyed. Apparently the perp was looking for money or whatever. They had to stay in a hotel until it could be fixed well enough to drive home. So sad!!!!!!

After the tire service showed up and installed his new rubber he discovered the propane tank was gone too.

The propane tanks were already locked on with a lock thru the T handle to the bracket so it can't be unscrewed without first removing the lock. maybe time for a better lock tho.
Off to buy replacements.

When I was in high school many, many decades ago, the story got out that our football coach, his wife, and a couple friends had gone out to the Big City for dinner and a movie. Returning to the car after the movie, they spotted some low life fishing around the car door with a coat hanger trying to break in. Coach, being fleet of foot, ran up behind the guy and kicked him in the fanny hard enough to boost him up across the roof of the car, whence he fell back to the ground in a fair amount of pain with a broken tail bone. (I've known a couple people who have accidentally broken their tail bone; I hear it is one of the most painful minor injuries one can sustain.)

After the police dragged the perp off to the hospital, coach confided in the rest of his party that all had gone according to the plan hatched in that moment when the thief had been spotted.

Gosh, OP, wouldn't it have been nice to catch the creep in the act, with, say, a baseball bat at hand? Be sure to scream "stop resisting" repeatedly while you break both arms and legs multiple places.

Hopefully those two stories/fantasies help you feel better, getting the justifiable anger out.

A local here went to the storage yard to retrieve his nearly new C for a family trip only to find it sitting on blocks missing all 6 tires and wheels.

After the tire service showed up and installed his new rubber he discovered the propane tank was gone too.

I've gone to the lot and found the door latch popped and the none locking sides of the storage hatches turned. Someone had gone thru looking for easy targets and this is in a fenced security yard with a coded gate. Luckily the batteries come home for charging as I don't have power there and I'm not about to leave my portable solar sitting out.

yep. I hate thieves more than any then else in the world. strong word hate. but they are the low life
