Gil, how much load were you trying to transfer to the steer axle?
Were you trying to get the TV to settle equal amounts at the steer axle and drive axle?
How much rearward tilt of the hitch head did you have?
Quite often people cannot get enough load transfer because of insufficient rearward tilt which leads to insufficient bar curvature.
Is there a difference in deciding on required spring bar rating versus a 1/2, 3/4 or 1 ton TV? Isn't it going to take more force to compress the front springs on a heavier rated TV?
The purpose of a WD bar is to restore some or all of the load which was removed from the TV's front axle when tongue weight was applied to the hitch.
The force which must be applied to the rear end of a WD bar to restore a given amount of load to the front axle depends on TV ball overhang, effective bar length, and distance from ball to mid-point between TT's axles. The force does not depend on TV spring stiffness.
