Store MH out West--drive car back

Anyone try this.
Thinking of leaving MH in storage in Nebraska or North Dakota, maybe even further west, on this summer's trip and driving the towed car back to Southeast Michigan. Pick it up again next summer. Seems it would save wear and tear and tons on gas maybe $600--$800 or so each way. Would remove the electronics that I added, which is what I do now.
Any thoughts.

  • Several years ago, I met a couple from the U.K. who were about to put there RV in storage for the winter, and return to the U.K. They planned to come back in the Spring and resume their trip around the United States.
We met them in the KOA near Spokane, WA.
IIRC, they were on their third winter. No problems were ever encountered.
    Yes, it can be done.
    Good luck.

I leave mine in central KS every October and drive the truck home. In Jan we drive back, hitch up and head South for the Winter. No ice and snow, road salt or blizzards to tow through. So far it's worked very well for 3 years. Excellent storage lot with security fence, coded gate and alarm. Very clean, no junk, owner lives right there. $35.00 a month..

    Bargain!!

However, KS not exactly like storing in dry AZ, or? - would be better if it was *inside* storage! (even at 2x or 3x the cost)

Unlike inside - or at/close to your home, if you have weather damage - you won't know until you return.

Sure could jack up that bargain price!..:(

Inside (3 sided, but they are new) sheds is $85.00 but we only leave it there 3 1/2 months. Not much chance of bad weather there in the Fall. The owner couldn't be nicer. He would call if something went wrong. It's a 10 hour drive with just our truck and it works well. COE campground is nearby and the elec is on all year there. $3.00 a night in the Winter with our Sr. pass. We spend our 1st night there and leave the next morning. Couldn't work out any better. Still have the use of our trailer all Summer. It's only $55.00 a month to store it near our house in the Summer months. Very secure place as well.

  • Its going to cost you somewhere between 80 and a hundred dollars a month for cold storage. Seems to me it would be cheaper to drive it home.

If I was going to do something like that I would not have purchased a MOTORHOME. I would just rent one somewhere...
