Thanks, mgirardo, for the OTR suggestions! These were new to me.
I do have AAA plus, but the distance is over 300 miles. I could look into being towed in multiple stages, though -- I didn't think of that until now.
Trackrig, I am glad to learn about that GS insurance, in case of future problems.
Old-Biscuit and fulltimedanial: Chronic means I will have this until I die. Unexpectedly worse means it was not possible to anticipate or predict. I am getting the health care I need, thank you for your concern, but it has become clear that it will be several months before I can safely drive and I cannot stay where I am for that long.

So, is nobody driving down (or up) I-5 this week? I am near the freeway and I see a constant stream of RVs :( :(
