'99 Ford would carry first generation airbags. The OEM's were still figuring out how to properly engineer those rascals. In some Ford Crown Vic's and Town Cars we would discover the BACK glass was loose after an airbag deployment. It was discovered the deploying airbag increased the cabin air pressure so quickly the air vents couldn't compensate and the back glass seal was the first to let go. You probably got socked by a wall of air and suffered something similar to blast exposure. Were your ears ringing?
Just a small suggestion -- vehicles today have fenders in the front and quarter panels in the back. Your fender got damaged.
One more small point -- Comprehensive deductibles are typically lower than Collision deductibles. Animal impacts should be classed as a Comp claim. Doesn't matter if you collided with the animal or not. Actually, the animal hit you. Insist on the insurance company marking it as a Comp loss.
