Stuff to do while camping.

I have a handheld GPS and go geocaching.

I have a metal detector and search for fishing tackle at the low water mark.

I have binoculars and do some animal/bird watching.

I carve interesting pieces of wood I find, especially drift wood.

Considering that life can sometimes be quiet stressful that "boring" is what some Rvers look for! :C

As mentioned before, we look for the day trips, new things to explore.
Also because were not woodsy type people we also like to mix in some nature Aka, hiking some fishing and we take our Kayaks with us. I also like to mix in a little boring too! :B

x2 -- we love geocaching. We've been to some amazing places that we would otherwise never have discovered. Been caching for about 8 years now and we do some form of geocaching pretty much every time we go camping.

What about biking, kayaking, canoeing, or metal detecting?

Bring your hobbies with you. My sister brings her scrapbooking supplies and I also have two friends who bring jewelry making stuff. One is a male friend who makes amazing chainmaille jewelry.

We sometimes bring candle making supplies and make cintronella candles (or refill our own that are getting low). This summer we made DIY firestarters out of wax and wood shavings -- some of which we plan to give as gifts over the holidays.

Sometimes we just sit around the fire with a glass of wine and talk.

We've been camping for 25+ years and I can't think of a specific time when I was ever bored.

muddy plan trips to do things you haven't done (even if ya think, bleck, who wants to do that!)

even if the draw isn't there, get your butt out and do it. stagnating is not good for anyone. and ya never know, a new thrill might just hit ya. never know if ya don't try.

I could never get into carving, my Dad on the other hand is quite a carver and spent a couple weeks at a campground in Idaho whittling a tree into a totem pole. Turned out very cool. I'm more into lead, gun powder and punching holes in paper or steel plates.

Maybe camping just isn't for you...No big deal it's not something everyone likes to do. You might be happier if you stayed home.

As I stated before, I am not bored at home. We are not in a change of situation as we have been empty nesters since we got married 8 years ago. I went from a bachelor to a married guy with 3 some what grown step kids and within 2 years I was a grandpa.Now that was a change.

Also as stated we go places a couple times a year and see the sites, my boredom comes during the short weekend trips where we boondock, I'm sure its because I have spent to much time in the woods in the past.

You guys gave me a few ideas I will try and use. Might also reduce the number of weekend trips and try and do a few more longer trips where we visit far away places. I have been asking the wife about travel locations and so far she has said she would like to go to Moab and the Grays River in Wyoming. Theres some cool stuff to see in Moab so that will be fun and its been 8 years since I worked the Grays River area so it would be fun to go back and maybe do a little fishing.
