I think you are right, a mutual hobby would be good. My wife spent her youth raising 3 kids and barely got out of the state of Utah, when I came along I started dragging her to far away places (far to her). She likes to go and really doesn't care what we do but I try and do things for her even though I might not enjoy it all that much.
Its funny when we take off to see my parents which is 10 to 12 hour run depending on where they are, she thinks its a long drive and all her friends don't know how I do it in one day. For me its a walk in the park as a one day run of 12 hours is just getting me started.
