I am licensed SD winter in CA and AZ mostly. Traveled from CA north to OR and WA last Summer and back in the fall with no issues with several State Patrol cruising right along side and passing me. CA recognizes SD but OR and WA it's a NO GO for RV's to double tow.

We all see frightening, but not necessarily illegal, things on the highway. I doodle along at just under 65 most of the time & get my doors blown off by something similar to the pic above with the tail wagging the dog.

The faster these idiots get away from me the happier I am.

Kind of round about way of reporting an illegal/safety issue.

I always find it funny how the laws of physics vary from stat-state? For example, some states a construction zone speed limit is 45 and in others it is 55, same road conditions.

Same goes here. How is it that the same interstate in one state it is illegal to double tow, yet you go over the border and it is legal?

I saw this rig at Wal-Mart a couple of years ago and an hour or so after I took this picture they showed up to check in at the campground where I was hosting. They had towed it over 200 miles in this condition. No WDH and no Sway Control.

Commercial vehicles are covered under different laws then the rv's are, I towed double trailers up and down I95 and length was close to 72'. Look on some states that allow triple pups and even double 53' So commercial laws are different

LEOs do stop and measure. In SD length is now 75'. used to be 80'. Multiple tow allowed, ball and ball. Most states allowing multiple tow require the first trailer to be a 5th or goose, longer than the second trailer. Most states regulate length and towing multiples to interstates or near them on state # highways.
SD used to allow 80', so once upon a time when returning home from fishing with our 32' tt and 20' IO boat an LEO stopped us on I 90 for a safety check. He measured us at 80' 4". made me lower the IO drive. Congratulated us on sway controls and braking for both.
Another time in 2008 we were going to Gulf Shores Al., through Ark., wboth states which prohibit multiples we were towing our 35' 5th with a M/C trailer total near 65'. A sheriff at a fuel stop in Jonesburg, Ark. commented its illegal here, legal where you live, you have gotten it this far. As long as you can handle it without trouble, we will let you pass. He did not say there is reciprocity between states, rather he intimated tolerance for our visit, severe penalty if we had a problem.
I am not advocating breaking a states law., rather pointing out that with proper equipment that is legal in your home state that in others where it may not be LEOs may let you pass by. You may risk severe penalty.
An interesting anomaly is N & S Carolina about multiples. I discovered in a thread I posted last Oct. inquiring about multiples in those states. Its legal if you are in nascar motorsports. Not for rvers. Now theres a successful political lobby for you!

Exactly, just because some thing is illegal does not make it stupid. I will send $5 to anyone on this forum who has never broken a law. Every body breaks laws everyday, if you believe breaking a law makes you stupid then look in a mirror to see stupid.

The guy pulling double in Florida may not have known it was illegal or was prepared to deal with getting stopped and the risk was worth it to him. Not stupid, just different values from some other folks.
