Suggestions for a work camper in a rustic campground

Y'know, if it were me I would just not use the toilet in the camper. Have a pee jug for overnight and use the pit toilets in the daytime. And if there are cg showers I would use them. Carrying all those buckets of black waste and shower water would get old real fast!

Hi all. Thanks for the replies. I am grateful. Yes the Wisconsin DNR who hire my wife as the resident manager do require all campers to use the oversized pit toilets for gray and black. There are 4 woman's toilets units and 4 men's toilet units. Total of 24 toilets and 8 urinals to be cleaned 3 times a week. It is a for a trophy fishing lake in a very remote location.
Nearest dump station and fresh water is 23 miles south. Once our travel trailer is set we don't move it. I will investigate the bladder and 12 volt transfer pump idea. These pit toilets are from the 1970's and have raised porcelain risers. So dumping pails worth of waste 150 yards away is quite a haul not to mention a heavy lift. I will also have to learn about this macerator described above. The wife talked me into buying a 2015 Rockwood Windjammer 3008W. So now I have to sell my Jayco Jayflight 22FB 2010, and tow vehicle 2002 Ford Sport Trac 4 x 4 crew cab.

I could see them potentially making this arrangement for the campground host/work camper, but certainly not for all campers. A vault toilet only holds so much and with everyone dumping their 30-50 gallon BW & GW tanks in there, it would overflow frequently and need to be pumped all the time.

As others have said, for FW, fill a bucket and use a DC transfer pump to get it into your FW tank. If they let you put BW & GW into the vault toilet, a macerator would be easiest.

But the first thing you should do is talk to your employers - whoever owns the site. What have previous work campers done? Where is the nearest dump station? Is there a honey wagon service nearby?

I'm surprised you're able to dump in the pit toilets. Usually they frown on it because they then have to have them pumped out. A macerator would be the easiest for you. Is there a dump service that would come to you?

For fresh water - there's a gizmo called a 'water bladder' and I believe Camping World even sold them. If you have a truck, the large 'bladder' is put in it and you drive somewhere to fill it up. It holds a lot of water. I hope this gig is worth the trouble and perhaps cost that you'll endure. Good luck!

Good point. Some USFS campground share a centrally located dump station.

The least labor intensive option for waste disposal is to install a macerator pump and a hose long enough to reach the toilet. I'm assuming you would have a generator/solar to supply 12V power.

Otherwise get some 3 gallon buckets with screw on lids, and dump a couple every day and more if needed. 3 gallons is a reasonable weight to handle without making a mess. You could get a wagon or hand truck to haul them.

For water supply, again some buckets that you could haul to/from the pump in your tow vehicle. In my experience you need a wide opening like on a bucket, to work well with a hand pump. Rig up something like a milk crate to set them on so they are close to the pump.

You could then use a 12V transfer pump to pump out of the buckets into your fresh water tank, instead of trying to pour into the tank.

Obviously keep your fresh water buckets clean and sanitary. Maybe get white ones for fresh water and some other color for waste disposal.
