Summer heat in Phoenix w/Class A... need some input

We are about to start looking for a home in the Phoenix area and need to be in the area to do so. We are in a 2011 HR Endeavor with 3 AC units.

We know the temps are brutal in Phoenix in the coming months and that RV's don't do near as well in such heat as a house does... but just how bad will it be for us in the RV in 100+ degrees?

I know we will probably need to run the AC units full time while there during summer... is it possible to keep a coach like ours comfortable in 100+ degree weather?

Are we crazy to consider this option???

If you could put up one of those portable garages over the top of the Endeavor it would help big time.

Its all about staying in the shade...

Enjoy the early mornings - best part of the day out there...

  • OK... good info.

I do know that the front windshield can suck in heat like you can't believe. We will make sure to get a space with the windshield facing north east and the rear closet facing south west, AND use the foil reflecting sheets on the windshield and windows where the sun hits directly. And we can add a portable AC unit in addition to the three roof-top units, if need be.

Sounds like with the proper preparation and a late model coach with 3-AC units, it should be manageable.
  • Good tips from other posters, also depends on your insulation. Don't know anything about Endeavor's, our Mobile Suite has 3 1/4 inch insulation all around, even the slides. We were in Phoenix last June and it was 112, we did put up the reflecting insulation in the big windows, we were fine. Today we traveled across the Nevada desert from Twin Falls, ID south to Ely, NV, it is 97. I left all the shades down while we traveled and it was reasonable cool in the rv when we stopped. Don't worry, you'll be fine

Hi, with 3 ac's I think you will be fine.

I have three and I still need the reflectix up in the big front window sometimes. It makes a noticable 10degree difference....or more. Best $43 I have ever spent.

  • Anyone who spends the summer in Phoenix is crazy, and we live here year round. Actually if you set your air at 78 to 80 degrees and shade your windows that the sun, especially the late afternoon sun, hits you should be ok.
  • yes but if you can block the sun from radiating thru the windows you'll be ok. take a ride to home depot, lowe's or even the camping world on main street in mesa and get a roll of the corrugated foil window shields. cut it to fit your windows and you'll be surprised at home much cooler your RV will be. also try to get a site that faces north, northwest or west. avoid southern exposure at all costs.
