monkey44 - I'm in a campground with critters, including some feral cats, and only one immediate neighbor, and he is at least 50 ft from me. And we are good friends. So I don't think I am discourteous to anyone.
I can appreciate that some parks really, really pack-em in. This is not that kind of a situation. And I would never stay in one of those dumps to start with.
I have also stayed in Florida state campgrounds where we regularly encountered feral pigs. Been in Michigan state campgrounds where adult raccoons were a problem to the point that the rangers had to put one to sleep with a 22 caliber sleeping pill. It was a bad animal and trapping and moving it was not an option.
Had a raccoon open my tent and reach in an raid my cooler while I was sleeping a foot away.
Bottom line, you don't necessarily have to boon-dock to encounter critters. Heck, I live in a subdivision in the suburbs and we regularly get groundhogs, skunks, plus a raccoon or two. Just a little further out you will also find packs of feral cats hunting birds and rabbits at night.
