Tear drop travel trailers, do they sway?

I owned a 28' rear kitchen travel trailer that liked to sway (even with sway bars). I then moved to a 32' fifth wheel that has spoiled me and tows like a dream (this is my current rig). I'm considering down sizing to a Winnebago Winnie Drop 170S (2800lbs) and they look like they may have a lower center of gravity. If I downsize to an F150 and pull a Winnie Drop, at freeway speeds will it want to sway like any other travel trailer or not? Thanks!

Your 5th wheel has at least 20% pin weight and probably more. Put 20% tongue weight on a TT and you can tow it at any speed you want. Your problem always was not enough tongue weight. You proved it by adding sand bags.

My TT has a huge pass through storage area in front fully loaded. Tongue weight is well north of 15%. I regularly tow it with out sway control (I keep forgetting to hook it up) and have zero issues.

Oh gawd no! Don't you know it's against the rvnet towing statutes to hook up a TT without hooking up sway control before the light me are even plugged in or beer loaded in the camper for the weekend? It's a requirement man!!

True! And I actually did the same with my fifth wheel as far as sand bags go. It was only at like 15.5% tongue weight when I first took it to get weighed. After throwing some sandbags under the front bed (directly above the pin) I got it up to like 21% I think it was. Thing goes down the road like a boss! :C

I did end up with the Winnie Drop 170S. I towed it home with my 2012 crew cab long bed F250. Didn't use sway control, and I ran it up to freeway speeds a couple of times and I didn't feel any sway at all. Stock it looks like the tongue is at 11.25% which is on the lighter side for my liking. I'm going to load it up for a trip and then weigh it and depending where it comes in I may throw a few sand bags up front. Thinking about heading out to Yellowstone and Glacier this summer (4000 miles round trip) so I'm going to get it dialed in! Thanks for all the help!
