Terrible campsite never going back

The CGs around Colonial Williamsburg all seem to be next to the tracks. The Hampton-Newport News-Norfolk area is a big deep water seaport, and something has to move the cargo inland. I've not stayed there, but Anvil looks like the worst. Looks like you could slap hands with the conductor without leaving your RV.
I suppose most folks don't want to build a house that close to the tracks.

Camp ground in Skagway backs up to the narrow gauge train track that hauls folks up the mountain from the tour ships. The noise is a great way for oversleepers to wake up.

Several years ago, we were tent camping and visiting the Wildlife Park in Winston OR. We arrived late (after dark) and pitched our tent. All night long we heard lions roaring and starting at about 4am, grinding and other LOUD noises. Turns out the grassy spot outside of the park was located between park's Big Cat area and the local rock crushing plant! And they were busy! Also, woke up to a flat tire. Needless to say, we our day only got better.

Even nice looking campgrounds with drive thru campsites can be in similar spots.

We pulled into the Great Salt Plains campsite below the dam along the river in north central OK one sunday evening and had the whole area by ourselves. What could be better.
We were going to stay another night for a two day stay and see the sights around the Salt Plains.

Well at 8:17 AM the next morning there was this terrible whistling/roar one after the other.
The campground is under the Kegelman Air Force Aux Field approach where our USAF trains touch and go landings. The field has no hangers but does have a control tower.
Now we understood why the last camper to leave had asked if we planned on staying long the next day.
We were gone by 9:30.

Many times good things come at a price.

Very nice "upscale" RV park - lots of amenities! (Not free, LOL!)
Even indoor kennels for your pooch if you take the train to the Canyon.

The GC RR depot is within EZ walking distance from the CG.
Same for the hotel and restaurant..:C

The Grand Canyon RR (steam & diesel) trains aren't the problem -
.....the 'main line' at the back of the CG is!..:(

You do *NOT* want the "convenience" of being close to the restrooms and the laundry - which are also close to the RR tracks.

Take a spot at the opposite side - which is close to the frontage road & very little vehicle traffic.

The passing trains can still be easily viewed by railfans...:)

Haven't gone back to that campsite ever!

Could have been worse,
I've heard someone stopping for the night like that beside a road and being awaken in the midle of the night by grizly bear trying to take a bite outta his face..
Luckily the man didn't hesitate and punched the bear so hard on the nose that it took of running..

Reminds me of a time I stopped at what looked like a quiet little motel in Mexico.

All night long, roosters crowing - it was next to a chicken farm, a BIG one.

Actually, Many "campgrounds" are located near train tracks because, I would assume, the land is cheaper to purchase. Sounds also like you "got what you paid for".... :) Been there and done that! I though the earth was ending! HATED it! Then I laughed out load at myself! Better luck next time!
