And people laugh at me when I tell them it takes about 8 hours to build an RV. When I talk to people that are thinking about getting their first RV, the first thing I ask them is how handy are they. Do they have basic plumbing, electrical, construction and mechanical knowledge? If the answer is no, then I tell them to pick another hobby because I've never met anyone with an RV that hasn't had to do repairs. I've looked at brand new units at dealer lots that had problems with de-lamination of fiberglass sides, de-lamination of stickers, inside trim that wasn't fully attached, etc. The list is endless. When you can negotiate 1/3 off a brand new unit, it's not because you're a good negotiator. It's because all RV's are made as cheap as possible and not worth anywhere near the sticker price. If you're fortunate enough to get one with only a few minor issues, consider yourself extremely lucky! If you are unfortunate enough to get one with major issues, I feel bad for you because you likely couldn't have known you were getting a real lemon at the time of purchase. Many of these problems don't show up until months after you've signed on the dotted line.
