Texas weather in June

It is very easy to get in to Texas, it takes for ever to get out of Texas, that is if you are not being chased by the chupacabra! then it is totally different, then you are stuck in Texas for a while.

I like Austin specially around the river and lakes.

Warning Texas tends to be flat compared to the States out West, and be careful the roads are straight for miles, and just as you are dozing off they have a couple of curves just to keep you on your toes.

Cute - I will watch for the Chupacabra's - Heading for the Alamo which I heard was tiny. Still - we are looking forward to seeing Texas and all (well a lot) of what it has to offer!

I remember that Mayfest hailstorm well. Destroyed my car with softball size hail. Was working in the jail downtown. It was ridiculous. Seen some green skies too. Those get pretty eerie. If I remember right someone might have been killed out at the Mayfest site from the hail. I could be wrong.

I just checked. I was wrong, but about 100 people were injured.

Was the tornado that went through downtown FW that killed someone.

When I moved to Texas in the 80's, my first week was capped by a green-sky-churning thunderstorm that tore the roof of a hanger at Carswell where we had taken shelter during the airshow.

When I left Texas, that huge 1995 Mayfest hailstorm had just wrapped up.

I think God was trying to tell me something.

One of the things I like about Colorado is the "No fear of dying when it rains..." ;)

Last June there were 15 tornadoes in TX in June.

1. get a weather radio with S.A.M.E.
2. when you arrive at your destination, find out what county you are in and get an Atlas and look at your location and what towns are adjacent, especially the ones south and west of where you are.
3. Ask the office where the storm shelter is in the campground. If they don't have one in the campground, ask where the nearest shelter is located.
4. when you arrive at a campground, search for the weather station that is the best reception. (you do not have to program the county if you don't want to.
5. Know the difference between a tornado watch and tornado warning.
6. Keep your cell phone charged and put your wallets near the exit of the RV in case you need to go to a shelter.
7. If you hear a severe thunderstorm warning or a tornado warning, don't hesitate, go to the shelter! Better be safe than sorry.
We have had to evacuate 3 times: once in Florida, once in Kansas City (for 2 nights) and once in Cincinnati (for 2 nights).
We watch the weather a week in advance where we're headed and will change our travel plans if the weather looks bad there or on the route.
Just use common sense and don't get caught unaware of the weather.
My son lives in Oklahoma. He said at work they told them that most of the time (not 100%) a tornado will move from the southwest toward the northeast. Once in Illinois, we hopped in the toad and drove due south to avoid a storm. Went to dinner, waited it out and drove back to the RV.
