Here's a logical reason for you. When you close a slide out it will interfere with the couch. But with narrower recliners, the slide wall will pass by with no problem.
On my floorplan the couch faces the TV. The recliners are in the rear (facing forward). Before closing the slide outs, we need to turn the recliners to allow the slide outs to pass by. If we had the couch where the recliners are, the slide outs could not close. Or they would crush the couch.
I have the same set up and I also have to turn the recliners to retract the slide. I am going to move the couch today and test to nsee if I have clearance issues. Even if there are issues I am going to be in NY for another 7 to 14 days (probably 10 days) so if I need to swap back to the original configuration before I move on 5 or 10 minutes of shuffling furniture does not seem like a big deal to me. I'll report back after I move the couch and report if the new couch location causes issues with the slides.
