There are just too many variables for the consumer to really know is one brand of gas provides better performance unless you were able to perform tests in a controlled laboratory. I try to get a lower price and try to stay with places that are well maintained, hoping that their tanks are maintained and not contaminated with water or debris.
I'm reminded of the situation years ago in western NY where people claimed that gas at the native American reservations was inferior. There was one event where contaminated gas caused problems with quite a few vehicles, but the situation was remidied. When gas prices went up and up, I started buying at the reservations and never noticed any performance differences, nor did I have any gas related problems.
