Years ago there was a real difference. Back in the day when every dealer had their own trucks. You could actually tell the difference when you used different kinds. Some brands cause spark knock, and some didn't. Remember Gulf NoNox?
ESSO now EXXON always gave my Fords the best MPG, However it was more expensive. I used it only on trips.
Now it all comes out of the same pipe.
Not only does it come from the same tank, but EPA requirements on fuel blending during the year and location restrict the fuel to be virtually identical blend at every station in given area. the ONLY difference is the additives the dealers claim to use for keeping deposits down. But the BTU content/gallon is going to be identical as is the octane rating. That's what determines MPG.
As for keeping the engine clean, I'll leave that up to each individual if they think there is a noticeable difference between brands.
I haven't noticed any difference.
And since in our area currently I see prices between $3.00 and $2.09 for regular, and $3.10 and $1.99 for diesel guess which one I'll go with.
