Don't bet the farm on that one. :) Wireless communication is here to stay, one way or another.

I just assume campground wifi is useless and wouldn't pay extra if it wasn't. If i can't connect through cellular when camping I don't bother. I'd rather be forced to take a break from all the devices anyway.

Heck, when I first started in my first RV (more years ago than I care to admit) it was fortunate if the 'campground' had a pay phone where you put in a nickle to get to the operator and then needed a bunch of quarters to talk with someone back home.

Folks - STOP!! Enjoy the ride - smell the roses - enjoy the Sunsets (I'm too old for the Sunrise trick) and make your RV time really special - not just another day away from home.

PS - and while I'm on a 'roll' - GIVE-UP the GPS!! Learn to read a MAP - you know the paper kind. A national Atlas will get you anywhere you want to go - especially if your Internet / telephone connection is shot!!

Some peaple Ned's it and are willing to pay for it, we do but don't nead playgrounds amenity bloks or golf courses, if you advertise u have it it is ment to be usable. Last year on way back from Alaska we stopped at a butiful spot out in the newer newer in Canada no charge, next night it was wery hot and desidet to go to campground in Calgory, paid a high charge for full hook op the power was so bad we coud not run ouer single airconditinor the only reason we stopped there. Every body was complaining but it was my fault for not knowing that the stampede was on.Sorry I did not get a apologi or a discount.

The poor wifi and cellular dead spot at a US park we really love and stay at yearly made me investigate options. Being from Canada it was more complex but digging deep revealed no T-Mobile signal in the park but did get Verizon 4g. Pay as you go 4g hotspot and bingo - internet high speed in trailer and truck. Expensive sure but what isn't? I actually feel sorry for the students who work the park desk (city owned) who get to listen to the wifi complaining. I think part of Rv ing is to be somewhat self sufficient or do without. We make do with the basic cable or ota. If I want more I'll get a dish.

I agree with the difference between "Basic wifi" and "streaming wifi", but I don't think there is a basic level of wifi being provided out there. If you can only check your email at 3 a.m., then the basic level isn't being provided.

Only time will tell if this is a big deal or not for RV Parks. Perhaps, as WesternRVParkOwner hopes for, this will go the way of landlines and payphones. Perhaps it will become a dealbreaker.

In the meantime, all we can do is what is best for each of us. That means some people will carry their own wifi; some people will demand that they get it free as advertised by the park.

As for service you can expect, cable tv is the best comparison. At a RV park you get basic cable. You don't expect premium movie channels, HD, NFL ticket, on demand pay per view or 500 channels. Same with wifi, you get basic wifi coverage, email and web surfing. Anything else is gravy.

Keep in mind that a great many RV parks are NOT located where broadband internet in available. If a park can get decent DSL consider them lucky. It's not too too bad for a family of 4, but multiply that by 65+ RVers, with 2+ devices per site, and it caves in very quickly.

People want a park off the beaten path, remote, rustic, and away from road noise and the sounds of suburbia - and then they want all of the creature comforts that they enjoy at home. It's kind of hard for a park to provide those creature comforts when the infrastructure isn't there to provide them.

Many RVers don't like the park cable, the few channels available, or the poor picture quality - so they bring their own tailgater, walk out dish, roof top dish, or dome. If you don't like RV park internet then why not bring your own internet access to the park with you?

Yes, I think this is most reliable, internet anywhere you have a cell signal. We have used this for years. You can also use your hot spot on your smart phone.
