Threads in drain screwed into fresh water tank

Question

I have a leak right where my shut off valve screws into the fresh water tank. I have a new one rebuilt but I am wondering what to put on the threads to seal it. It is black abs plastic. Will thread tape work best?

If you have had this experience what did you use?

I would go with the Oatey tape. The pastes or other plumbers putty have never lasted as long as the tape.

I used the paste when installing new fittings in my FW tank .. use it every year on the Atwater hot water fitting as well.

Three wraps of the tape and a thin layer of the pipe dope, be careful not to over tighten.
