et2, there are several reasons we use an outdoor fan. Living in the south, one reason we use a fan is the provide a "challenge" for mosquitos to get close to you. Another is the humidity. It helps quite a bit in that area. And, I just like a nice breeze blowing around me when I'm outdoors. Another reason I wouldn't have a screen room added to my awning.
We haven't boondocked in a long time, so I'm not as concerned about voltage comsumption. I just ordered this one, which seems like it will move quite a lot of air when needed while offering a lower setting for those evenings when we don't need quite as much cooling. It even has a couple of outlets built in to it.
