$50 per night x 150 nights = $4,500.00 over five years.
So, if I travel and stay for a time, the RV is cheaper. But on a road trip, with long distances, inexpensive motels are cheaper.
Your calculator works a little different than mine does Don. $50 X 150 = $7,500 on mine.
But I’ve found that overall, meals & motels average out to well over US$100 a day. While there is gas savings, I ‘express’ it while I’m travelling and being able to eat, stop for the night, etc., often means less days on the road, more savings.
Bear in mind too, while you have to account for the price of an RV, if your ‘daily driver’ is worn out much faster because (like the OP) you’re ‘touring the country’ you have to account for that too, or buy another vehicle entirely. If the OP has a Prius as a daily driver but needs a 3/4 ton van to tour with that’s the cost of a used Class C right there.
In the end, I find my m/h is cheaper than motels, by far.
Aside from all of the above, I’m a foodie, making my own food is worth big bucks to me........
