The average CG is around 38.00. I don't think you can even find a motel for under 60.00 with taxes. Red Roof and the like no longer have the lowest prices anymore.
And when I did make a trip back home with just the truck and dogs?? Dang motel wanted 25.00 extra for EACH DOG!!! And every motel I stopped at off the interstate was filthy. Couldn't wait to get my MH back.
I full timed for about 10 years and I just drove till I was tired and never landed anywhere that didn't have a CG nearby. I don't make reservations either. y GPS has a function that alerts you when you are near or going past a CG. Once I had that I pretty much relied on the GPS hollering at me that a CG was close as I was driving!.
IMHO what some RV'ers don't know is that almost all CG's keep a row for 'traveling RV'ers'. Just pull in and they will find you a spot for the night. During peak season even if they don't have a spot open everyone I stopped at allowed me to come in and park up front to get some sleep.
AND 'also' you can pull into just about any CG that is closed late in the evening and you will find a note at the main building where to park and pay in the am or a box to drop a check in. I've done that tens and tens of times once a friend showed me that!
