Tips on acclimating the family to longer road trips

Hi folks,
Plans are in the works for us to switch to a MH and take once a year trips from the east coast to the west (and back hopefully!). We are accustomed to one day of travel and staying in one place for a week, then coming home - and will do a 500 mile day if needed. This is the 4 of us and a dog stuck in a crew cab pickup truck. I imagine in a MH it might be a little easier on us.
I think having RVed for over 10 years we have one or two things figured out but I'd like your tips from those more experienced. Ideally I'd like to take our time but limited vacation from work means sometimes we'll just have to buckle down and make time. I'm not going to make the whole trip like that (I'm not that crazy! We will not be moving all of the time) but there will have to be some days like that. I'm interested in your tricks to make that pass easier for DW, DD and DS.
DW plans to help with the driving on the MH so that will be a much needed help and break for me, considering now I do all of the driving with our setup. She is much more comfortable with the idea of driving a MH. That right there I think would help (at least us) to get through a long day or two.
Kids are 5 and 8, and we are planning to use next year for a run or two where we drive for two days instead of one, to see how we do. Then the year after plan on something big for as many years as we can until the kids are out of the house (can't even imagine that!)

thanks!
