These forums are full of posts regarding what air pressure they chose to run in their tires. If someone wants to run 40 instead of the 50 the manufacturer specified what is a tire shop to do? Risk being sued when an accident happens or fill to mfgr spec as a CYA? Manufacturer's spec every time.
I haven't seen a tire shop installer yet use a torque wrench properly. They always over torque. I come home loosen the nuts one at a time and torque properly.
My guess is the people complaining about poor tire shop air pressure are the same ones that are fastidious about checking it. If it is low, add some, if it is high, bleed some off. It takes less time than booting the computer.
