Good question. When we had our "blowout" or what we thought it was. I sent detailed phots of the tire from differnt angles to an RV tire specialist and he determined that we did not in fact have a bloweout, but tread separation.
I've seen more than a few people happily driving down the road with a flat tire on their trailer and after it gets so hot and blows apart they too have a "blow out."
And if you were following them before the tire let loose you most likely would have seen them pull over on the shoulder somewhere, or they were happily weaving with the curbside tires going over the white line onto the shoulder about every mile. Take a mile walk on an Interstate shoulder sometime. More hardware than aisle 12 at Lowes and you'll probably come away with at least 1/2 a dozen rubber bungies as a bonus.

Back in the day a friend was working on a NASCAR team. It was just him and a driver. The story goes my friend never got a flat tire traveling around the US with the truck and trailer. The driver of the race car was always getting flat tires. He was like WTH? My friend would tell him stay out of the %#$%@$%@ gutter and you won't get any flat tires either you dumb @!#!
