The OP sounds like a real road hog to me.
When I see folks come hauling adz up behind me like that, I will hold on to what I got until ole Parnelli Jones gets the heck on by or where ever he is going.
You are lucky the guy in the ole pickup did not get figgedy and shake some of that prized stuff out on the road. :B Since it was plain to see that he was an idiot. Oh yeah, all those folks driving a pickup like that are idiots. Really, maybe that idiot was having engine problems.
