Toilet bowl seal and months of storage

Plumbers grease works great to lube up the seal and stop leaks. Available at home supply stores in small tubes.I just push the petal down and run a little around the seal with my finger. Usually keeps it good for a month or so.

Oh, I like the Vaseline trick!

In Arizona this system is used by many RVers when they leave their RVs for an extended period of time:

Fill the bowl with water. Put a few dabs of Vasoline on the rim. Cover tightly with saran wrap. You will come back months later and the water will still be there. Try it!

It not that easy for all toilets. I have a dometic porcelain toilet, and that has to be pulled from the floor to change the seal..

Which Dometic model toilet do you have??

You might want to try the cheapest vegetable oil, works as well/better than olive oil and generally costs less. Also, after dumping the tanks, pour a couple of pints of oil into the holding tanks, valves closed and let it sit for a while. Then, open and close the valves quickly a couple of times. This will lube the seals and they should open/close with a little less effort.

Dometic® 300/310/320 Flush Ball Seal Installation

NO TOOLS REQUIRED.
1. Turn off water supply.
2. Hold flush pedal down to keep flush ball open.
3. Grasp inside edge of seal and pull upward to remove from toilet.

Yes, you can store it with RV Anti-freeze (Pink Stuff) instead of water if you want to.

Just be sure to you use an alcohol free antifreeze.

While in storage olive oil will help keep seal wet, lubed, pliable and doesn't evaporate.

And after retreiving it from storage, the olive oil can be used to make hummus!
