New RV, New Toilet....do I need to do anything to the seal? The water drains out of the boil in two-three minutes...annoying at best. Looked at the Thetford manual, says to change the seal, but since it is new, I figured you guys may know a little trick. I though about coating the seal with vaseline....Any ideas?Cale

No Vaseline! No petroleum based products! Cooking oil, olive oil, plumbers grease.

Take a tooth brush and brush where the flap forms it seal there could be something in there stopping the seal. By the way throw the toothbrush away after,

My guess if it is that new is that while waiting to be sold the seal stuck to the flush part (for want of a better name) then someone flushed it dry and put a small tear in the seal. Put it on your dealer list; you will have others.

You will have a list to repair so the trip to the dealer will be what I think is your best bet. I want to be wrong.

If it has never been used then it is probably the seal and it needs replacing. If it has indeed been used it it very easy for a little toilet paper to get smushed in the seal when it closes producing a slow leak. If so, open the valve and clean out around the seal. All will work then.

Call the dealer and ask them. If they don't have an easy answer other than taking it to them ask them if it would void the warranty if you put some cooking oil on it to try to make it work until you can get it to them. Might save you some hassel and money in the long run.

Don't know how much newer it can get than picking it up on Saturday...it was built on 6 AUG 2013.

The dealer is over an hour away...if it is an easy fix, I can handle it, not worth the fuel and time...I will try what has been mentioned, then if a no-go, then I can reassess the situation.

If it is truly new; take it back to the dealer and have them make it right. Later down the road if you have problems follow the suggestions you have been given here.

Vaseline will break the rubber gasket down. It might work as a temporary fix to slop some on there, but that's just what it is, temporary!

Mine wasn't new but the seal in mine had calcium deposits on the seal. I took it out and scraped the deposits off and put it back in. Has been good now for about 3 years.

Its a messy job but not difficult.
