Tolls

I got a EZ-Pass in NH last summer. One for the RV and one for the toad. The pass can't be moved from the car to the RV because they are diferant class of vieacal. I was instructed to put the toad transponder in a shilded envalope and put it in the glovebox so it isn't read when being towed. I looked up the fee schedual and when it is being towed it is billed as a trailer at a lower rate than when it is being driven as a car.
I would recomend you get a EZ-Pass because many roads are doing away with any place to pay. You might as well get the discount.
With out the Pass going across the Gorge Washington brige with the motorhome and toad was only $76.00.
I allso have a Texas Toll Tag.

Get an EZPass and go thru the dedicated EZPass toll lanes, even when towing. I have found that sometimes the toll collectors are not the on the ball when they punch in your toll. The automated lanes seem to count the axles and the toll is correct. The reason I say this is because in New York you can a motorhome EZPass that charges your motorhome at the discounted car rate.

Yeah, I've heard of several municipalities that have removed them now. Some when they found out the accident rate went up at camera locations instead of down...

Best thing we did before our trip from SC to Quebec last summer was get an EZ Pass from Deleware. No application fee, no monthly or annual fee. Saved a ton of hassle and allowed me to detour into NYC without near the hassle.

That is inaccurate now. If you have an account with ExpressToll, you get charged a lower rate as you fund an account that withdraws every time you use a toll road in CO. You do not have to have an account to use the toll roads in CO but you will pay a bit higher, however, it is not a violation or are you paying large fines to use the toll roads without an account.

What you might be referencing, IIRC, is what occurred many, many years ago when CO removed toll stations.

if you cross Detroit/Windsor at the Ambassador Bridge they take payment in left arms or first born children.


we have toll rods up here where they snap a pic of your plates and send you a bill. no stopping no nothing (our highway 407 that I know of) the perk is if they miss your plate its free. so the fact that you can straddle lanes at the cameras mixed with the fact that the camper or boat or canoe often gets in the way you can often get lucky.

This is the latest "craze" in how to take tolls, "pay by plate". Sometimes it works well, sometimes not. Crossed the Golden Gate Bridge last summer in a rental. For some reason, paying on-line wasn't working right. Had to search for a place to pay in person, which I finally found. All told, it took more than an hour running around to pay a toll. What a waste.

Cameras take a picture of your license plates and the bill is then sent to your address if you do not have a prepaid account. No free rides there.
