Tornado hits Cherrystone Campground in Virginia

Saw on the news that a tornado hit Cherrystone this morning. Atleast 3 dead and 20 injured. Prayers go out to all involved.
  • This why when ever I sign into a camp ground I ask where is the designated storm shelter? Most times I get strange look and Huh?

Then I ask just where do you plan to go if a bad storm hits? Some times I get an answer and some times more Huh.

At least I know in advance what my options are. i.e. driving out of the camp ground to shelter if time permits or just reaching down and grabbing my ankles.

    Bob

  • WAVY Chopper News 10 helicopter flyover just after the tornado was reported, now confirmed as a F1. Click above to play.

There were apparently 1,380 people at the campground when the tornado struck. A warning was issued 10 minutes earlier. There is also a live news stream at WAVY TV.
  • Just saw a 20 minute video on WAVY news 10 website. Unbelievable video.
  • Tornado was not officially confirmed at this point, but likely due to pictures that have surfaced in the area. It is a big campground with a lot of mature trees, and the pictures of the damage that has made it on the internet so far does not show the destruction you would expect from a touchdown. I feel for all involved and pray the injury counts do not climb.
