Is relying on smartphones doing oneself a disservice for tornadoes?

It's not advice, it's fact. Tornado FACTS If one life is too much why are you on the road because over 30,000 people are killed every year on the roads of the US. Compare that to 60 or so deaths every year from tornado's. Gamble much?

Tornado: Been there done that 2 homes damaged AND on the road in my RV AND in a CG. Bad enough to lift my 31 foot right off the ground and slam it back down. Had to get a tow truck to lift it up again to get all the CG stuff that flew under it to be able to move it.

Sorry for your experience. You're one of few and your still here to tell about it. You didn't say how over how many years this happened but it's a safe bet that over those years millions have died on the road and only hundreds have died from tornado's in the same time period. Gamble much?


Tornadoes are a VERY VERY life threatening serious situation.

And so are bees and wasps. :S And they kill about the same amount of people in the US every year. Do you give the same advice about them as you do about tornado's? Do you put on a bee suit when out and about? Remember, you have about the same odds of being killed by bees and losing one life it too many according to you.


Yes just driving down the road on a sunny day an idiot can hit and kill you.

BUT, BIG BUT 'knowing' and 'being aware' of WHERE a tornado is and 'AVOIDING' it is just plain common, life saving sense.

OP, look up the stat's for yourself. It's all readily available online. Again, this chart is very graphic way to show what your are dealing with.

Mrwizard the OP was concerned about tornado's and that is what I addressed. He did not mention anything about flood or storm cells or anything else. He was concerned about tornado's.

Who said anything about deliberately driving into a storm cell? I sure didn't.

As far as hunkering down where you are if a big storm starts up where you are: Great advice, because the chance of a "tornado" killing you is very, very, very, very, very small............in fact, almost non existent for all practical purposes.

In fact, bee's and wasps kill about the same amount of people every year. This chart is a great visual for people that have a hard time understanding statistics.

And cows kill about a 1/3 of the people each year that tornado's do. COWS!
