Tow brackets 2014 Honda CRV

Hi,
We had an accident with our Ford Focus that was totaled out that we use to tow behind the RV. Just bought a 2014 CRV and I'm getting ready to set it up to tow 4 down.
I have a Roadmaster sterling tow bar. I looked at Roadmaster and they show 3 different brackets not sure which ones to order.
If anyone has their CRV set up to tow which brackets did you use?
Is a brake light relay required?
Which supplemental brake system do you use?
Where did you buy the parts from?
Thanks,

Jeff
  • I'm always amazed when I'm in Qzs Az and see all the toads w/ all that black iron garbage hanging on the front of those small vehicles. I always think that the engineers of those hi $ overpriced towbar setups ought to really be proud !

I have always built my own base plates w/ a couple hardly visible ears on each side that the RM tow bar pins to directly. Took RM engineers this many years to figure out something so simple as the #5....was it?
  • We have the same tow bar for our 2013 CRV and used the EZ2. I installed it myself and it was relatively easy. I install an RVi2 brake at the same time. Works nice. I also added a charge line from the chassis battery to the CRV with the RVi charge box.
  • We also have a 2014 CR-V. If you need to get wires from the engine compartment to inside the car, there is a rubber gromet when you open up the driver door that you can get your wires thru. That way you don't have to drill a hole in the fire wall!
    Good Luck

    You're welcome.

And I see "New Member" so WELCOME!

About the EZ5 - Just be sure the rest of your tow gear (current or intended) doesn't violate any of the restrictions that come with EZ5.

This Roadmaster Application Chart shows the three bracket types, EZ2, EZ4, and EZ5.
They all will fit, by that I mean install, your CR-V.

Most of the way down on this page you'll see explanation of EZ2, EZ4 and EZ5. The EZ5 looks like their latest/greatest. As long as you're using a motorhome-mounted tow bar, and don't want to use some of the items listed as incompatible, that's the one I'd want. Would be simply wonderful to not have to use the cross bar so typical of Roadmaster. Roadmaster is rugged gear. Good stuff, but their design was behind BlueOx for user friendliness. EZ5 looks like it closes that gap.

We have the old XL brackets, those little square receiver hitch-looking ones that attach with pins, clips, etc. and require the cross bar. Probably strong enough to plow snow with, but tedious to remove. So most Roadmaster bracket owners disconnect the towbar and leave all the rest on the toad. Then the toad looks like it has a snowplow frame on it. EZ5 does away with all that.
