Mfg. published MAX TOW RATING is a magical marketing number using a base model, a 150# driver and 20# cargo.

One will run out of actual payload capacity long before reaching that magical max tow number and then trucks GVWR.....along with RAWR/Rear Tire Max Load

This holds true for 1/4 ton, 1/2 ton, 1 Ton etc.
Not just 1/2 ton.
All can be a tow vehicle within their REAL ratings/limitations.
Simple math.
