Towing a Jeep Liberty Diesel

I've been towing our 2003 Jeep GC Overland for awhile now and it's been great but last month my wife asked why we don't tow our 2006 Jeep Liberty Diesel instead since it has fewer miles (62 K vs. 94K) and I didn't have a good answer except that the GC is a bit more comfortable.

We've had the Liberty since it was new and it's in perfect condition but spend 5 months a year sitting in the garage.

I've seen a lot of Liberty's being towed so I figure that must be just fine but thought I would check and get the opinion of others. Of course having my own rolling fuel tanker is of moderate interest....might be handy sometime.

Oh, it is 4WD with a transfer case.

Thanks for any thoughts.

  • We have towed our Jeep Liberty gas for over 70,000 miles. It currently shows 36,000 miles on the OD. That would put it over 100,000 miles on the chassis. We have had no issues towing it. It has a 6 speed manual tranny. Very simple to hook up. The only thing we do that others may not is we estimate every 50,000 of towing & driving miles and have all of the fluids changed out. We are due again right now.

That entails transmission, transfer case, front differential, rear differential, brake fluid, and coolant.
