Towing Ford Fiesta

Considering a Fiesta for our next toad. I know most of the models are flat towable and it appears that all you have to do is disconnect the negative battery terminal. What I'm wondering is if this is much of a hassle? For example, I assume every time you un-hook and want to drive the Fiesta even for a mile or so, you have to reconnect the battery. No big deal I guess?? With my Sonic, I have to run the car every few hundred miles and remove 1 fuse but it can stay out for a whole long trip. Seems like the Ford might be a bit easier?

  • Been towing a 14 Fiesta S manual sedan for three years. Zero problems. When new manual said to leave key on - we did not. Newer ones now say disconnect battery - we do not. Only problem we have ever had is towing for several days without driving car and battery ran down. We love quick set up and go. Tran in neutral, emergency brake off and leave. About the lightest four down towable available. PS no speed limit.
  • At iRV2.com, in the Dinghy section, there is a long thread about the battery disconnect on a Ford Focus, which has the same requirements as the Fiesta. A couple of posters came up with very good, solid hardware solutions to make it easy. Because on the Focus, the negative terminal of the battery is quite hard to access. I don't know if the Fiesta is the same.

Some people took the easy way out and put a disconnect at the firewall ground terminal. But they didn't realize that one or more computers were still connected by small wires at the battery. That leads to transmission destruction. So the disconnect has to be at the battery.

Overall, yes, you would simply reconnect the battery and go as needed.

I would add, drive a Fiesta AND a Focus. The Focus is still a light car, and it is a lot more comfy and useful than the Fiesta IMO.
