Ray,
Depending upon the model you get, you may still be over some of the numbers! Not sure what size trailer, pin wt etc you are looking at. But for my family, I would need a typical Class 5 minimum, if not a class 6 truck to tote some of the larger TH style 5w trailers, As many will have pin wt in the 2500-3500lbs, In my case, add in 1200-1300 lbs of people, and I am over wt on a typical 35 series dually truck.
BUT, get the trailer first, best thing to do, then match the truck to how you drive, where etc. This is how I set up my rigs for my business. I do not buy based on tow ratings. As I have had rigs with gcwr's LESS THAN the gvwr of the truck. Granted this potential dissappeared in the mid 80s.....but when said rig with a gcwr went up a hill, the one below gcwr did not.......I have not trusted a tow rating since! Nor will I, even with the new SAE specs, as some of the specs they use are 1/3 of what I need a truck to do, IE starting ability up a min 12% grade, I go up 20-30% grade frequently enough that anything under 20% is yawner of a minor steep grade!
