DO NOT remove the bearing cups unless you can be absolutely certain that you put them back on the exact shaft they came from. Bearings will "seat" with each other, and putting them where they did not "seat" will accelerate the wear. Also be sure that NONE of the little needles fall out and get lost. If that happens, the u-joint must be replaced!
I recommend using plastic electrical tape to secure the cups on the u-joint. Just wrap it around the outside of the u-joint, about three layers should do the trick. That is what I always did, and it worked well.
