For about 6 years, we towed a 2000 Mustang with a stick shift (manual) transmission without any modifications or problems. I would recommend stopping and running the engine every 500 miles or so.
In 1968, I towed a Corvair from Northwestern Montana to Seattle. The book said to stop every 250 miles and run the engine for 5 minutes. What a pain that was! I wished I could have disconnected the drive shaft, or had a budget that would have allowed renting a car trailer!
Removing the drive shaft on the old Datsun pickup was a much better plan, IMO.
