Towing With Refrigerator On Propane

I figure, an explosion that blows an RV apart isn't going to be caused by leaving the fridge on. If you have a gas leak, something will set it off. Having the fridge turned off is not going to stop the leak. The fridge knows enough to turn off the gas if the flame goes out too many times - had this happen driving through some very heavy wind + rain one time.

Don't hose your fridge (or furnace) vent area with gasoline while you refuel. Keep an eye out for wrong-doers that might want to hose your fridge (or furnace) vent area with gasoline while refueling. Diesel's not going to ignite with the simple sparker in your fridge or furnace, but hosing your vents with diesel will make a mess and smell bad, so avoid it as well.

We completed a 7900+ mile round trip from VA to CA and return early in 2014. The fridge was either on gas while I was pulling, or on electric while hooked up to 120 in a camp ground.

The frig uses such a small flow of propane and it's outside the rv so it's unlikely to be the problem. I believe some of the explosions are from accidentally turning on the stove. I did it in the last TT I had. I was standing with my back/butt toward the stove talking to the wife while she was standing in the bathroom. I bumped the knob and shortly later I was smelling propane real bad. If it would have been on for long enough and the gas was escaping around the frig, yes, it could explode.

I think someone else on here mentioned the same thing when they were carrying some items and they fell against the stove.

my parents from the early 60s till they stopped traveling in the mid 2000s always had the pilot lit

I leave it on down the road, but shut it off before re-fueling at the gas station.

When I had a TT I towed with it on, now I drive with it on. I always turn it off when gassing up.
