Trailer tongue weight scales?

If it's like the buttons on the cheapie $19.99 fake Rolex-looking watch DW got me on a cruise ship, the button is just there for show. Pffft...

Sounds like the button on the gauge is not for zero-ing

I would expect the button is for zero-ing the scale before you put any weight on it. In some cases, you could have something on top a scale you don't want included in the net weight like an extension of some sort for example. Also, just a guess, but maybe the ambient temperature changes the reading (unloaded) a bit?

I got my E-Bay scale for $100.00 & wonder what does the what sorta looks like a rubber covered button do on the top of the scale dial?

So far I see my boats tongue weight is is only about 100-150 depending on how I shift it about on the scale & my car trailer need to have the car adjusted being how it sits with my Samurai on it is about about 900 lbs.
But I already knew just by looking at it the the rig is too far forward on the trailer.

Handy & fun little tool & I think I'm end up marking the trailer for each 4x4 I'll normally tow at its best position for the tongue weight.

The Sherline scale is pretty handy, and like was mentioned, not that bad relative to other purchases. I used it to measure actual wheel weight on my toyhauler, just to make sure that I wasn't too badly overloaded on a single tire or axle. It's a good quality scale.

I also use the Sherline Scale. Since my TV is a Toyota Sequoia I am careful with tongue weight. It also came in handy when a buddy was TT shopping for a unit to pull with his Jeep Liberty.
