A number of years ago we joined the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA)primarily because of its included benefit of a travel assistance plan. FMCA has now scrapped that plan and now offers a similar plan for a fee of $105 for family coverage. FMCA membership is $40/year and I'm paid to 9/2016.I've also been a Good Same member for many years. Good Sam now offers a travel assistance plan for $120 a year for the family. I have a lifetime Good Sam membership.I'm trying to decided which of the two plans I might sign up for.Long-term-wise, the cheaper approach is to go with the FMCA plan until 2016 and then switch to Good Sam.I have two questions for the group:1. Do any of you have any experience with either of these travel assistance plans?2. Do any of you even feel a plan like this is worthwhile?I generally do not buy extra warranty insurance and stuff like that, But I'm thinking one of these plans might give DW a little peace of mind knowing she could get some help with things should something happen to me when we're thousands of miles from home.I'd appreciate any comments. We did some research and ended up with SkyMed. A bit pricy but worth it for the piece of mind.

If you're a CoachNet member, they've now changed how their Roadside Assistance plans are structured.Their new Platinum Plus plan includes a travel assistance plan, with the same coverages as the new FMCA plan.Compare these 2 with Good Sam's own plan; YMMV.

We both drive in order to get the motorhome to wherever and both have medical insurance so no need for a program such as this. As full-timers we're not going to be flown 'back home'. We're always in our home. All we have to do is get to the nearest medical facility.

To be clear, are you talking about assistance for humans or RVs?

Found the answer to our question. Coachnet Premier Medical services do not kick in until you are 100 miles from home. Good Sam travel assist does not have that restriction.

Coach Net Road Service to have spousal coverage you must go with the $109.50 plan. Good Sam road service with all the services we need is $79 to start or by signing up for three years $79 for each year.

Guess we are now Good Sam plans users.

We have the Travel Assist from Good Sam. Signed up because we both might have the need for the Medical services offered. However we have CoachNet for our RV roadside service. Coachnet is up for renewal.

I also have been trying to get more info on the Premier option. If it is the same as Good Sam's Travel Assist we will go with the Premier Coachnet. Does any one have more info?

OK, I'm the OP and I was talking about the medical assistance plans for humans, not mechanical assistance for the RV. The Coach-Net upgrade to the Premier Plans looks like the best deal. But boy, trying to get information about it - just about impossible. Although as a Gold Plan member I could download a copy of the Gold Plan Benefits guide, I could not download a copy of the Premier Benefits guide - not authorized.

So I called Coach-Net....twice. Both times I was told that it is company policy to not provide the Benefits guide until after you have paid your money. I questioned this policy, asking why - they would only repeat that that was the policy. I pointed out that I doubted that the CS person I was talking to would buy home-owners insurance without knowing what was covered, what was not, deductibles and costs. They agreed, but would not budge. I told them they sounded like Nancy Pelosi:"You have to pass the bill to find out what's in it."

The second agent did finally agree to send me a copy of the Assist America portion of the Premier Plan, which I did receive the other day. Also, after the second call, I wrote a letter to Mr. Jeff Jensen, President of the National Motor Club of America, Coach-Net's parent, telling him that he really needs to re-think a company policy that in effect prevents members from upgrading. No response yet.

I think it is pretty clear that he is talking about the medical travel assistance plans if you read his initial post. This thread is not about roadside assistance, but about medical assistance for RVers and travelers.

I believe that I DID understand what the OP was asking about.

FMCA has revamped and improved their travel assistance plan under a new carrier. Good Sam also offers a plan.

And the VFW offers a Emergency Assistance Plus program, with Medical Evacuation & Transportation Home, Medical Assistance, Assistance for Companions, and Travel Assistance at $109 a year for VFW member and family. They will even drive your RV home. If your not a member, it is still available for $189

And here are other fraternal and professional organizations that use the same service:
