- K_CharlesExplorerOurs is always on unless winter. Most parking lots and rest stops are level enough for the fridge. If I can't walk comfortably in the parking lot I won't park there.
- nineoaks2004ExplorerI usually leave mine on and most of the time even at home I have never had any trouble with any I have owned. However as stated the new ones are designed to keep the items cold for 8 hours (as stated by the manufacturer)
- KD4UPLExplorerI never shut mine down from the first trip in the spring until the last trip in the fall. The original fridge is 13 years old still works fine.
I do try to park on level ground. - pianotunaNomad IIIHi,
Before I had the ARP protection device I shut down my fridge or drove in circles in the parking lot until I found a level spot.
Now I still try for level--but I'm far less concerned.
And yes, damage can happen in 15 minutes.
Replacement cost for my fridge is $3000.00 - AJRExplorerMine is on from the day I start my first trip till I winterize the camper.
- SoundGuyExplorerHere in Canada one of these 6 cu ft gas absorption fridges can run $2500 to replace so with that in mind I always shut the fridge off whenever we intend to stop more than a few minutes. Some may consider it unnecessary but I figure better safe than sorry and having owned a number of these fridges it's a process that's worked well for me as we've thankfully never suffered any sort of fridge failure.
- 3oaksExplorerWe leave ours ON when stopping for pit stops and lunch breaks along the way even if out of level. Going on 10 years without a problem.

.. if it is beyond that I will shut it down as soon as we stop. - catkinsExplorer IIUnless really out of level, we leave it go. Normal walking OK - we let it go. When in doubt - shut it down and leave closed. Fridge will stay cold for at least 8 hours without running if all was cold before you shut down.
- Diesel_CamperExplorerOur refrigerator is supposedly able to operate safely as long as you can comfortably stand or walk in the rig. Mostly it stays on, but if it is beyond that I will shut it down as soon as we stop. I'veread that it only takes about 15 minutes before damage to the refrigerant can take place.
