traveling in AZ/CA heat

Folks:

We are near Casa Grande, AZ and temps have sky rocketted up to 120.

Would like to leave here for OR however, travelling in this heat is dangerous.

I'm thinking we should stay put till temps reduce to 90's then make a run for it. Only do 250-300 miles per day. Traveling in early morning till around 11:00 then stopping for overnight seems doable.

Have excellent tires on truck and fiver.

The longer we stay the hotter it is going to get. We waited cause we had electrical problems with fiver which have been resolved.

Feedback is most welcome!

  • Stop often and use a short piece of broomstick to thump your tires all around. The ear will detect any differences very readily.

I also carry a laser thermometer with a beam. You can shoot from one side to the other to check brake parts and tires very easily.

Make sure you have gas for your generators too. And water.

I once pulled up and out of Palm Desert where the temp was 117F and drove up the hill to escape the heat below. I put the defroster on full heat to help pull heat from the engine, opened the windows, and up we went.
