Here are a couple of law firms that specialize in California gun laws. The first two are the same group just url's for different areas of interest.

Best to avoid CA if you have firearms. They are, except for a few nuances, like New York State and the other Northeastern states.

Simply Google search each state you will be in. you will get some thing like this.

I believe you are good to go after you clear the NY state line. except maybe the state of Ill.

just don't carry concealed. leave the 44 in the coach until you get to the range. or a place where you can shoot unrestricted.

Many will help with questions but when someone comes across like he already knows it all why even pose the question??

Yes it is a serious subject that has been discussed many times here but are you really familiar with the state to state laws and reciprocity that states recognize? Do you have a state or states Concealed Carry Permit?

Understand the gun laws in each state you are in. Don't open carry, it just calls attention to yourself and you might find yourself laying down in the dirt with a LEO pointing his gun at you. Some states require you to noitfy a LEO if you are carrying concealed with a CCW.

Consider a safe in the trailer for securing guns. I don't like the idea of leaving the trailer with guns unsecured. You could get a small gun safe and if you have storage under your RV bed like most do, you could lay it down and bolt it to the floor.

To the OP, since it appears a handgun is involved in the mix, thisis a good site with up to date info. Do not confuse it with legal advice. You can search individual state's attorney general sites for specific legal statute. Don't be wrong, even out of ignorance, 'cause it can earn you a trip to the graybar hotel. It's a sad state of affairs when it's this complicated to take personal security into your responsibilty. Like tax code, it's all gray by design.

Also, if you have no training, you are a timebomb waiting to go off. Get some, and push away the curtain of ignorance. The three legged stool of AOJ must be met for legal justification of use of deadly force in defense of self and other's under the mantle of your protection, in most every state in the union. If you don't understand that, you don't know enough. Not a dig, just an illustration. Massad Ayoob at MAG40 is a good place to start. Get trained, know the law, and stay safe. No one ever filed papers because they got out of harm's way.

My simple solution is to avoid any state that prohibits my second amendment right to keep and bear arms just as I avoid businesses who prohibit the legal carrying of firearms.

To the original poster... you are good to CC in Texas, go to shooting ranges and even go hunting if interested and want to spend the money on an out of state hunting license..

www.handgunlaw.us is the site I recommend to everybody that asks and it has allready been referenced hee a couple times allready. Not only will it answer your questions but it also gives links to each state so you can go there and make sure the info is totaly up to date. If you plan to travel a lot you can look into getting a non-resident permit from Florida, Utah and/or Arizona. I have the new Illinois permit and with Florida and Utah I can legally carry in 38 states. Jim.

From past experience, it is best to keep a close eye on each states web-site because the laws have been changing faster that printed material can keep up. maybe a good thing to do would be just to print out up to date laws and keep them current because not all LEO can keep up with them either.
