We have been active trk camping for the past 3 years. I have always carried two firearms. We are working towards going full time this fall. Would like to go to the baha area in mexico this winter. Would like to hear from anyone as to ideas in storing the weapons while in mexico. I will NOT take them into mexico, unless there is a legal way to do it I hear of folks going down there to hunt and taking the guns with them I guess. Last fall we were denied access to Ft Campbell, because we had firearms, and no place to put them off post. Short of taking camper off truck and leaving it somewhere. I am a vietnam combat vet, and 15 years in law enforcement, Just not comfortable not having a weapon for self defense.

Many suggest looking for a gun shop near the border and asking them to store the firearms for you. Others have suggested a short-term rental in a safety deposit box at a bank. If they are long arms that may be difficult but a handgun should fit in a standard box. Just make sure all mags & ammo are also stored elsewhere.

If you are retired or disabeled military, many bases policies don't allow firearms brought on base and they then provide storage for folks using the fam camps, check with them if you are eligible. Usually it's security at the main gate that handles it.

You're prior law enforcement. Contact the police department near where you plan to cross the border. They should be able to give you some ideas where you can store your weapons.

Safe deposit box for handgun. Or Google gun storage facility in the area near the border. I just offloaded my weapons for going into Canada. Left them at a gun storage place

As far as using hunting as a pretext for bringing a gun into Mexico, my understanding is that you actually have to have a hunt booked with a licensed professional guide, who arranges the necessary paperwork, and is responsible for securing your gun when you are not actually hunting.

You can't just wander around in Mexico with a gun because you have a Mexican hunting license.

Leave the guns at home. If you are worried about self defense, get bear spray. It is effective and safer.

I enjoy shooting sports, but for travel, I restrict my shooting hobbies to a pellet gun and archery gear.
