travel/road maps

I'm sure this topic has been discussed many times, however, DW and I are planning a trip from PDX to northern WI after 4th of July. We do not want to drive more than 300 miles per day.

Is there a app that you can set mile parameters with ability to include different types of camping i.e. boondocking, county parks, national/state parks, fairgrounds etc?

Am I just overlooking and not paying attention to something we already may have?

  • I just planned our first with rvtripwizard.com. It is a paysite but lets you put in ranges and it shows you everything within the range.

  • I like to use Google maps to plan out trips. I'll often zoom in and "travel" along the map to see if there's any good places to stay right off the highway. If I'm lucky, there will also be a nice street view where I can see what it actually looks like from the road perspective. I do the same thing when planning out where to get gas.
  • What I do is use MapQuest to see how many miles it is,then I will go to a state park website for what ever state we will be in and see if there are any state parks in that area. If you don;t want state parks, KOA's have maps with locations of their campgrounds. All Stays also has a map with a filter that allows you to view what type of campgrounds you want to visit in a certain state.
